Common Zephyr Faults We See in Kitchener Homes

We work on range hoods and ventilation week in, week out across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph. These are the faults that actually come up.

  • Blower motors are the number one failure. A hood that hums but moves no air, or that has got noticeably louder, is usually the blower bearing on its way out.
  • Grease-saturated baffle and mesh filters kill airflow long before the motor does, and most people have never taken theirs out.
  • Touch control panels and membrane switches stop responding, often after years of heat and grease exposure.
  • LED and halogen lighting circuits.
  • Backdraft dampers stuck open or shut, which is why some hoods let cold air back down the duct in winter.

Zephyr Models and Series We Service

  • Wall-mount chimney hoods
  • Island hoods
  • Under-cabinet hoods
  • Inserts and power packs
  • Downdraft units

If your model is not on this list, call us anyway. The list covers the families we see most, not the limit of what we work on.

Zephyr Repair Questions

My range hood is running but barely pulling any air. Why?

Nine times out of ten it is the filters. Baffle and mesh filters saturate with grease and choke airflow. Degrease them first. If airflow is still poor with clean filters, the blower or the duct run is the problem.

Why has my hood suddenly got much louder?

A worn blower bearing or a wheel that has come out of balance, often from grease build-up on one side. Left alone it will eventually seize the motor, so it is worth catching early.
